Couachi contains lactones, the main one being quassin, which is known to be febrifuge and depurative; however, the external application of couachi (quassia amara) can be extremely effective against macaque worms (worms whose larvae are born in living tissues and feed on them), but also in the treatment of irritations caused by the female butterfly responsible for butterfly disease: hylesia metabus, spraying large quantities of stinging darts. Burns can be treated with couachi medicinal soap in addition to couachi care oil. It can also be used as a repellent.
